Following my recent post I have tried googling to find the history of Cycle Chat. So..................
Founder or any early members..........I would appreciate and enjoy knowing all the when/what/how/why's etc.
e.g. from when it was set up---who was the first member ? Is that member still here ?
Thanks

Once Upon a Time...there was the old Cycling Plus forum, then they changed it. This place existed, but did not have many members and was an "open" opportunity for those disgruntled at the changes at C+. Someone spotted it as an opportiunity, I think @Arch may have played a part, and then people came over.*

In many ways it's like that Kevin Costner baseball fillum, with @Shaun in the Costner role.

*or summink like that

The best person to ask is @Shaun.

The tale is very much as @Marmion described. There was a mass exodus from the Cycling Plus forum when it became the Bike Rader forum.

Some migrated, I believe to ACF - another cycling forum and when that folded, to YACF - yet another cycling forum. Some folk refer to YACF as 'the other place'.

Some folk from here also visit the other place and vice versa.

I had no idea there was such history.

I didn't know that, I assumed it was something that Shaun had created.

So @Arch was a founder too?
Shaun created it, it was in existence for a while with a low(ish) membership. Arch (and others) pointed out it's existence to those disaffected with the changes at C+ and there was a migration. It was fairly obvious that everyone followed me here to ensure themselves of my continued wit and wisdom.

They built it, we came (in droves)

Most (all ??) of us Old CC'ers are ex pats from the Cycle Plus Forum.
A classic example of what happens if you don't listen to your audience and try to commercialise something.
It went from the "only" UK cycling forum with thousands of active members to a shell of it's former self over the period of a few months.

You have just made me go over an look to see if it's still running, it is, and I'm still a member!, so logged back in for old times sake
What is interesting is the shear numbers of readers, typically messages were read by 2-3,000 people back in the day!
