Okay, I've not been on the bike for 3 weeks as it didn't get fixed in time to take it back up to UNI. I've been out on the bike twice and I'd say I'm struggling to go as fast as before.

Is it because:

A: I've had too much beer and crisps at UNI
B: The heat is to blame
C: My speedo is actually broken
D: Other???!!

(actually, my speedo does seem to be a bit all over the place atm).

edit: FFS, I wanted to put a poll in but obviously didn't click something..urgh.

By the magic of Admin you now have your poll!!!

E. While you were off the bike, the componentry degraded at an accelerated rate through disuse. Your bike is now over 400 years old.

Or when my bike got stolen the insurance company just wrote specialised allez on the bike they gave me?

I always wondered why it had a massive front wheel and a wee rear one.

Even if I'm not as fit, I'm not letting the heat off. I think it was got a big part to play - especially after getting back (didn't drink enough in the car), when I went on a ride I got an awful headache from dehydration.

You should offer that for sale to Hilldodger!

Dehydration is grotty. I've been caught before now without a drink in the middle of a long ride. Really sapping.

I think MacBlodgeon hit the nail on the head, you're three weeks closer to shuffling off this mortal coil - it's all down hill from here I'm afraid.

I've been eating more crisps and drinking more beer lately and I'm positively flying uphill at the moment.

So it can't be that.

(oh jeez..MacBludgeon is right...I'm getting old - shoot me now for my grammar police comment).

I'm going with blaming dehydration and loosing a little bit of fitness. Thursday will be the real test - how quickly can I get to and from work

Maybe this is the start of a dawning of realisation for you. Lets face it, you are never going to be a top draw pro cyclist (harsh but true).

So my suggestion would be to throw away the 'stopwatch' and learn instead to enjoy each ride. Don't fret about times and PBs, look around, take the world in and enjoy your riding:thumbsup:

I'm never going to be a lot of things. I'll never be a professional comedian, but that doesn't mean I can't make my friends laugh or stop me from wanting to make them laugh.

G: your watching your speedo which has the effect of slowing you down as your trying hard to get your speed as high as you can and so not pacing yourself,

the cure is to remove speedo, paint a spoke red and if you can't see it amongst the others then your going fast enough.
