why don't you tell us what you watch on TV and let us judge whether your choices make you moronic or not?

Did you see the interview where Cowell wants to do a politics style X factor where he essentially holds a referendum on every big political issue with a hotline to Downing Street. I think he said something like, 'well look at Afghanistan, I don't know why we're there'.

So if Simon Cowell doesn't understand something we should hold a referundum. I wonder if he understands what a democracy is. Mind you he's not too happy when people vote the way he doesn't want.

I have no desire to turn this into a political argument, but he tends to have a good feel for what the nation would want to watch. Yes, he has lined his pocket handsomely, but he is successful at what he does. I personally do not like the sugary music that is played on his show, but admire his conviction and enterprise.

Quite so. Without his shows, ITV would have gone bust a couple of years ago.

His shows are even more popular and he earns even more money in the States. The US must be one of those weird countries where every right-thinking person doesn't automatically see hard work and aspiration as something to sneer at.

Well I was thinking of saying that issues are far to complex for people to have a simple Cowell vote on and we need politicians who understand the real issues and in whom we can place our trust to do the things we voted them in for...............

I watched some the series. I hate how the X factor is imposed on us, just to get the christmas no.1 and put money in Mr. Cowell's pocket. I really don't like the x-factor ..... it is on exactly the same level as Big Brother.

How is it imposed on us?

About 30 channels were broadcasting tv last night (plus the off button). Someone from this particular programme is releasing a record that people may wish to buy.

You are free to watch other shows and not buy the record. So what is the problem? What is actually being imposed on you?

There surely is more of a case to say we have soaps imposed on us. Like a drug they hook you in and then ramp up the number of episodes per week.

I am happy to avoid all soaps, all american detectives, in fact all detectives and crime dramas, big brother, the jungle one where they eat insects (apart from when Myleen was in the shower), all breakfast shows, all daytime shows where some family decides to air their dirty laundry for entertainment, those crap dramas that start at 9pm on sundays, freak show programmes and any of the numerous hospital based dramas.

I am probably down to Andrew Marr, HIGNFY, QI, the News, and any good comedy.

I never watch the telly. Except - and this is actually the only reason I bought a TV, after 35 years without one - for the Formula 1 and occasionally the Moto GP. The rest of the time, it remains off.

You also have those police, camera, action shows that seem to run
continuously on ITV4.

Well, if you believed that, it'd put you in the 50% below median intelligence.

Reminds me of the stupid government policy of getting more people out of "poverty", when poverty is defined as a percentage of average income.

I managed to the end of the series without seeing one of them. I have no idea who won - and don't care either.

I quite enjoy the start of Britains Got Talent - it's good entertainment with comedy value, but towards the end of the series I get bored.

The morons are the ones who vote, not the ones that just watch the show but don't give their money to Simon Cowell by voting. I watched the X-factor last night like I always do but I've never voted and never will.

We watched it as a family. Neither my wife nor I voted, but our 7yo & 10yo girls did. Both for Joe. Now the 7yo is convinced that he won because of her vote, which to some extent is true although probably not as much as she thinks. You never know though, this first taste of the power of the voter may just encourage her to take part in later life when the polls open to decide more important matters. Then again, the next 11 years and peer pressure will have more of an effect.
