Morning all,
1 in 7 guys get diagnosed with prostate cancer, including my Dad, so sorry but I've got the begging bowl out.

I rode for Prostate Cancer Uk last year. They strike me as a charity that spend their money very wisely on preventative research and on family support.

I'm doing the Surrey Ride 100 again on Aug 10.
Great fun and a big challenge for me, but not just a jolly.
If you could spare a £1 or so it really does make a difference.

Thank you

Good luck Stu. I had a scare myself last year but thankfully I did get the all clear, however, my Father was then diagnosed later last year with PC that has also spread to his bones  Although it will be terminal they have given a reasonably long prognosis under the circumstances, so considering his age we can only hope that he will just become one of the many men who die every year with PC rather than because of it, but hopefully not for a good while yet

FYI - if you raise over £250 PCUK will send you one of their cycling jerseys as well, mine has become my favourite piece of cycling apparel since I got it last year, and along with the PCUK running vest I got they make me feel proud when I wear them

Hey Smokey, sorry to hear about your Dad. But glad you got the okay. As we get older I guess we need to look after things that we once took for granted. I guess that is why I got back into cycling. Thanks for the support,. S

(Pedant alert!) I clicked the link. It's a ratio of 7:1, so it's actually (as the link says) 1 in 8 men who get it.

But good work; I hope your dad recovers/recovered.

(my Ride100 money is going elsewhere, right @vickster?)

Fair point. I checked the site and you are correct.
Thanks for the encouragement.

Have already donated stu9000 as my gramps is in the same boat at nearly 91 years old!
I hope your dad gets all the help and support he needs and I can't think of a more worthy cause to give to along with a "mans two best friends"

Britain has an appalling success rate with Prostate cancer, but it is not the fault of the treatments or diagnosis per se.

You get a bit of hesitancy when you go to the loo - so write it off as "age related"
The flow stops and starts a bit - so write it off as "age related"
You get a bit of dribbling after you have been - so you write it off as "age related"
You find yourself going to the loo in the night - so write it off as "age related"

After al you don't want to bother your GP with something so trivial......

THAT is where the problem lies, as so many Prostate cancer are presented late when they are already well established, and spread to other organs.

If only we had a campaign like those for breast cancer to educate the need for early reporting and the opportunity to treat at an early stage

Sorry to hear that.

What I wonder is that how would they check me when I get to that age?? It isn't as though I have a bum to stick a finger up of now, so what would they do, a scan??

I can't use Justgiving fron Denmark Stu but good luck with your ride and collecting.

My dad succumbed to prostrate cancer a few years back. He had a bad 18 months before the end and any help you can give to help solve this awful disease is appreciated.
