40 mins 39 seconds to be precise....

my first open water swim at Salford Quays. Cold (14 degrees), hard, draining, ... but... from misery comes great glory!

well pleased with my time for my first open water swim.

It's weird when you get out, i was walking like i was pissed LOL

And well impressed with my goody bag (which is not plastic but a proper swim bag) which had a t'shirt, medal, flip flops, nutty bars, pop and a magazine. Really well organised event and once i'd go used to being in artic conditions and also passed the half way mark i really started to enjoy it.

i have to say though, a mile is a long way to swim when it's not in a nice warm pool with no waves or currents and a side you can grap onto if you get tired

I assume you were wearing a wetsuit. 14 degrees is pretty cold.

Just call me Chris...
Depends on the terrain though - was it uphill or downhill?

Well done Buggi, that sounds a fantastic time!
I'm no swimmer (negative bouyancy doesn't help) but it's just such hard work. I've recently started swimming again and although think nothing (relatively speaking) of doing 100 mimes on the bike, a few lengths of the pool leaves me shattered!
Are you training for a triathlon?

Swimming makes me tire faster than any other exercise... so I have enormous respect for people who just slog on steadily ...well done buggi.!

Well done Buggi!
I haven't done any open water swimming yet this year, but I think the worst bit is that your face keeps going in and out of the water so you keep having the shock of the cold...
