1 year journey in cycling experiment

I figured New Years is the perfect time to get excited about me cycling to work and all the great benefits that come with it. I commute 17 each way to work. Most days, I'll ride the bus back home because it's a bit of a grind being 40years old and weighing in at 208lbs on January 1, 2014. Of course, my ultimate goal is to completely cycle round trip each day. Anyhow, each Friday I'll weigh myself in and post results along with current miles cycled with my commute. I figure this is a GREAT way to keep track, stay focus, get support and build momentum. 5,000 miles cycled and 175lbs is my goal. As of now, I'm at 119 miles in. Please wish me luck and support me. Feel free to chime in on your results if you are doing the same. God speed to all of us!!!!!

thanks for the early support fellas! I'll be riding 85 miles a week if I only commute in to work at 17 miles one way. I hope to cycle round trip at least twice weekly till I have it in me to cycle back daily. Ok, by the way, I weighed in at 207lbs this Friday evening. Down 2 pounds as of January 1. Just need to stay away from all the bad foods.

By the way, I failed to mention that I'm cycling in a Cannondale Synapse 05 Road Bike with slick tires. Below is a picture of it. Took it while I waited for my bus ride home.

Good luck, managed nearly 5000 miles last year, however weight did not change much at all, but I am slimmer! You will notice it in the clothes but maybe not on the scales!

Good Luck !

Started at 245 myself, but it sounds like you're starting from a way better place (I could hardly cycle 2 miles). You'll soon be doing the return leg, and maybe even hankering after the occasional extension ;-)

Traffic lights, that's all I can remember of LA. Favourite route was up and down PCH from Seal Beach, not too many lights, nice and wide, some nice places to stop for coffee, nice sea breeze.

Still couldn't bring myself to move there, something about British winters :-)

Wow! How many bikes do you keep at home? What happens when you've ridden them all to work?
