10 speed chain set with 11 speed chain

Is this a workable option? I am looking to change to 11 speed Sram shifters and mech, but not looking to change the crank and the rest of the bits just yet. The crank is a 10 speed and I know that the 11 speed chain is narrower, but is it possible to get them to work together (trying to cut the cost of the upgrade)

Yes.

The chains are narrow in overall width, the distance between the plates is the same.

wicked. Will they run efficiently or should it only be a short term fix until I can get a 11 speed chain set?
