Hi,

I recently acquired a Trek 1.2 2011 model.
It has a 50 / 34 crankset and 11 - 26 cassette.
I get a bit of slipping if I put the power on, I'm going to replace chain obviously but was looking at cranks, I can get a decent 10 speed one for less than a 9 speed.
Would this cause any great problems?
New to riding so any advice would be gladly received.

Thanks

Firstly - with slipping it is usually the chain AND cassette which wear. So just replace the chain and cassette and see how you go.

You can replace the 9 speed cranks with 10 speed cranks if you wish (they just made the outside of the 10 speed chain a bit narrower but kept the internal gap the same so it will work perfectly).

Pete is correct. I recently but a 10 speed triple Tiagra Hollowtech 2 chainset/crankset on my Secteur as I knackered the threads on my 9 speed one with a crank removal tool. Everything else is 9 speed and the 10 speed chainset works flawlessly. I bought because of price really and the threads were to easily damaged on the old Ocatlink crank for my liking, so wanted to go with cranks that do not use the same removal method. I can live with shorter BB life I have read about as they are so cheap anyway.
