What are you all talking about, I saw this show yesterday where Guy Martin rode at 112 mph... So it would appear that all you need to ride at 40mph for 20 miles are REALLY big sideburns!! (and a truck to pace you the whole way... and a tow rope...)
 
The most important factor affecting the quality of the commute is clothing and gear . . . my balaclava changed my life with regard to the winter commute--obviously warm, but the wind noise faded away, allowing me to really enjoy my soundtrack in the winter.
