Saw this on Facebook: utterly charming, impressive and funny, all at the same time:

edit: maybe later, but just going with the title on Youtube/Facebook
edit #2: having now watched a bit further, I know some of those roads, and cycle them regularly... but not the rivers)
edit #3: it says it's 1994... so some of these guys are presumably still alive and kicking.
ANYONE ABLE TO EDIT THE TITLE?

DCLane

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
The number of them just throwing their bikes into the river/across

Hardcore stuff. But then I don't do cyclo-cross.

I was in the Tyne Road Club with Wes Clatyon and his brother Dennis. Dennis died suddenly of heart failure having climbed the Gibbet He was only 60. Wes unfortunately passed away a few years ago too. He was the national 24 hr time time trial champion, Dennis was 12 hr champion. I am not so sure of the others. The place to find out would be the cafe in Elsdon, Marrion and John would know. I used to go there with some of the folks in the video and they still run the cafe. It is littered with pictures of cycling past. FWIW Wes, me and someone I forget won the mountain 60 time trial team prize around 1986.
The video is more likely to be late 1960's.
Wes hit a road sign in one of the club runs, we used to sprint for a road signs. He got hepatitis in the blood transfusion as a result of the accident. He had it for about 20 years without knowning then took ill, he had a liver transplant. He went on to do the transplant games and won the road race. This was 2 months after the transplant.
The old regulars meet up in the pub in Stamfordham for lunch, I think it is on Thursdays. They would know too.

That's really interesting, Arsene, thanks for the info. I go to the Elsdon caff regularly
About the date: the YouTube clip title says 1950, but if you listen at some point the guy talking says "...after he had his transplant, blah blah that would have been 1993, so last year" (or words to that effect). But I guess the 'commentary was prob'ly added at a later date, as the film looks older than early 90s, I must say.
