Do the Peugeot bikes from the 1980s have standard fit components?

I'm going to have a look at my friend's with a view to a refurb project and want to be sure I can get spares.

If it's a Carbolite frame then I'll give it a miss, hoping it's Reynolds 531 though.

I don't think they are 531. I have a mixte from the 80s and although it is pretty lightweight for that type of bike (I believe they were classed as a tourer) there's no 531 sign. I'll have a look at it later. It is hand brazed but it has a chrome stem and handlebars which I'm pretty sure are not standard. I'm actually going to put it on Fleabay as I find the mixte bar is more difficult to get on and over than my Orange Clockwork MTB. Probably something to do with 27" wheels and the wider cross bars. I know some bits are non standard but I think you can get them.

Peugeot did do 531 frames in the eighties when the brand was very common in this country. You'd be right to give Carbolite a miss, that stuff gave pig iron a bad name.

make sure that if the seatpost is 24mm that it will go high enough for you. Otherwise the frame is more or less a write off as these seatposts are rarer than golden turds

My LBS specialises in classic bike parts for old bikes, he's got stuff going back to the 1920s

May even be able to get one manufactured in my home city of Sheffield.
