Hi I wonder if anyone can help,I am fixing up a old postmans bike for my son but the bike has no chain.i am trying to source a chain for it as it is not a standard size chain, the cogs are slightly bigger. I have been to a few bike shops and they do not seem to know where to get one from (apart from India). Surely there is somewhere more local. I know I will have to pay a premium for such a chain but getting one is the problem.I am in the uk so any one with any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks

Welcome, I know post office bikes had odd sized stuff but always thought the chain was standard half inch by 1/8".? Someone will come along who knows more than me lol

No need to book the Air India flight just yet, this should work:
https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/1-speed-bike-chain/_/R-p-257
Not in stock but you might be able to find one in Halfords etc. You'll also need a chain breaking tool to cut it to size. Lay the new next to the old link for link to size it.
https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/500-bike-chain-tool/_/R-p-202
The only other thing you'll need is a plier to close the spring link.
Or you could get one on Amazon but expensive:

View: https://www.amazon.co.uk/zonkie-Single-Speed-Bicycle-Chain-Links/dp/B08CK9FVYC
Note: If you don't envisage using the chain tool again and don't want the expense you can remove the pin with a a suitable size nail and hammer .

BTW hello and :welcome: to the forum.

Thankyou but all these chains are smaller and thinner compared to the chain that was on the bike as the teeth on the cogs are much larger than these newer bikes 👍🏻

Try contacting Pashley who supplied the older bikes* to Royal Mail, for the correct size required.

*Sole supplier for a short while in the 50's and 60's.

Edit
3/16" chain will be what you need given the date you give.
