Jodrell Bank is one of my regular coffee and cake stops and over the past 12 months I've watched as the local community worked on the tree.
If you carry on heading East you can go through Lower Withington, Siddington and Marton before heading back home. There are some really nice quiet lanes to explore.

Well done, glad you found it and enjoyed the great weather, and the ride, Jodrell Bank is great cycling day out, even in winter. From Warrington, I ride via the Peovers to Jodrell Bank, sometimes via Plumley. The problem is crossing the A566 and the A50.

There's a wonderful route-finding device that needs no batteries and, unlike a GPS, which only shows you your route, this device shows you the entire area at a glance with coloured bits representing water, forests, rivers, roads and even contour lines to help you avoid hills. Some these devices even show cafes and pubs. They fit perfectly in a jersey pocket and are ridiculously cheap considering that a couple of centuries of R&D work went into them and you can carry on using them for years:

Beware, my OS maps worn out at the folds after only 32 years use. And, I can't even send them back for a refund.........

Like me, this one's seen better days!! But is has shown me several ways of crossing the A50 and the A556 that I would otherwise have never found. Clever bits of kit!

Turning them on, or "opening them" is really quite simple and you will see your playground unfold before your very eyes. Closing the device can be tricky but once mastered the technique is fairly straightforward.
Battery life is an issue. My 1979 copy is on its original charge (£2) but won't last much longer.

I like the bit more expensive OS Active Explorer 1:25000 washable\waterproof maps, you can plot a ride with non permanent pen and wipe it off after the ride.

£2 is one of my more dearer maps. Do I detect a connection between glaciers and dinosaurs here

Maps would be great if they had a "you are here" marker, as they don't they just confuse the issue and I'm better off just winging it.
