Working on an 80.s biuld and
Been trying to find some info on when internal routing was introduced on handlebars.

I've seen some examples but dont recall dates or names

I'd really like a set from the 80.s but unsure of release dates and names and if they were available at this time

I assume you're talking about internal routing for brake cables. My late eighties Schwinn has them but I don't know when they were introduced. I'm guessing a little prior to that.
I'm sure someone will cone up with more precise info.

According to Velobase Shimano introduced the Dura Ace AX aero brake levers in 1981, so I'm guess the first grooved handlebars would also be from around then.

This American Raleigh catalogue from 1983 has aero brakes on the 753 and Competition GS:

Peugeot brought out the aero'd up PH12 in the same year. Looking through the Peugeot catalogues on Peugeot bikeboom they don't seem to have became more standard until 1988.

Shimano 7400 was Aero, but that was around 89/90. Shimano 600 wasn't aero in 1986, but would have been early 90's

You won't probably have had grooved handle bars - none of mine are from the 90's - you just used a 'cover' which smoothed out the bar tape, or if no 'cover' just use electrical tape.

Some people messed around with drilling the side of a non aero lever and running the cable backwards, that would be around the last year I did TT'ing circa 1978.. But that was DIY, the kosher stuff came a coupe of years later lol

Not so fast Mr fossyant. I have some 6300 parts, stems, posts, disraeli's, levers and they are 600 ax from the early 80's. Aerodynamic, maybe, light, no.
Edit for wrong model number!

After my time but are those bars /stem the strange shimano oval jobbies?
Sorry for the late reply! Yes they are from the 600ax era. Hidden bar clamp screw, good looking but not light.
