Can't comment on your ratios, but I switched to a 1x9 set up a few years ago and not looked back. The simplicity of changing up/down with just one click makes it a pleasure to ride. My ratios are 40 + 13-25, which is good enough for the climb out of Eynsford and Terry's Lodge if you can remember these.

Happy Christmas from Gravesend

Everyone is different and will require different ratio. I have 1x11 SRAM Force 42T front and 11T-28 rear and although there are times I would be happier spinning a lower gear I just console myself to the fact that I have to get my backside out the saddle and heave on the pedals or else get off and push

I feel for you @SpokeyDokey as I have ridden in the lakes last summer, it certainly is extreme cycling, the downhills are scarier than the uphills!
I shall watch this thread with interest, as I'm after a new tourer with lots of low gears and I'm so lazy with changing gears in the first place.

I have a Planet X XLS set up with a mixed 1x10 set-up which is;

Miche race cranks with Hope narrow/wide 44t chainring
Shimano xt shadow 9-speed rear mech
Shimano 105 10-speed shifters
Shimano XG 11-34 cassette

Gearing works fine for me but then I am in the fens!

It's perfect for me for commuting and as mentioned above it's simplicity is one of the best things.
