Anyone know if a dynamo hub with an output of 2.4w can power a decent set of front and rear lights or are they just suitable for front light only and would need a hub with an output of 3w to properly power front and rear lights .

Carbon fibre... LMAO!!!
That's plenty of power for front and rear lights and then some.
My previous 1.5w hub did all that.

2.4W hubs are intended for front light only, but front and rear lights will work fine.
They just won't be quite as bright at the same speed as they would be with a full fat 3W hub. You'd probably be hard put to actually see the difference, except down at the lowest speeds (5-7 mph).

Planing on using LED ones as its a new set up for my comuter bike , not sure if i will take to it so don't want to spend a great deal, some of the Shimano 2.4w ones seem good value with good reviews too.
