As per the title, I was returning from a club ride on Sunday and hit the deck at 25mph, don`t know if it was diesel, or ice etc, but my arm is covered in gravel rash and I`ve got 2 cracked ribs to show for it and bruises everywhere, the worst part was that I laid in the road for a few minutes with my bike on top of me, and nobody ( in cars, surprise surprise ) even bothered to ask if I was ok. Then, this morning on black ice I hit the deck again, landing on the same injuries that I aqquired on Sunday, got to work and just got laughed at. Right now I could throw my 4 bikes and all associated gear in a skip, feeling really low and hacked off:thumbsdown:

Bummer. I've led quite a charmed life with offs, but the few I've had have tended to be more in the warmer months when I'm really going for it.

Here's for a speedy recovery chum.

Take it easy out there, up here the roads are pretty bad. I know today on one road I was wheel spinning on ice all the way up a hill, and that's on 2 inch off road tires running at 15psi!

Maybe stay of the roadie on days when the temperatures are right down - It's not worth risking being put off the bike for a long time due to injury.

Get well soon!

Ouch, heal fast you'll feel better in the morning! Touchwood, I find the 23mm tyres of the road bike more reassuring just now. IME its a case of lowering psi's (I haven't pumped the commuter tyres up in weeks), being smoother avoiding sharp bends/ braking acceleration and being a wee bit clever on my choice of routes main/ bus routes and flat.

I`ve been using my mountain bike as a commuter for about 8 weeks now and will until the spring, tyres are pretty low and I trust it well but this week has been a nightmare, I work 13 miles from home and have got to walk over any smooth surface, had another near miss coming home over a viaduct, forgot it was smooth and nearly flew off again

I live on the moor so a mountain bike over the winter months is a must

Not nice. Sorry to hear of your nasty 'off's'. I imagine it must be very demoralising for you right now. Hope you get better soon, and recover your enthusiasm and confidence.

You know it's perfectly ok to have a few days off riding the bike. Long enough to get thawed out and to start appreciating the pitfalls of other modes of transport. I'm sure that after a while, when the bruises have faded and the road rash just a feint shadow you'll start to miss the old bike(s). Speedy recovery and don't make any "rash" decisions:smile:

Ouch. Sounds like a nasty couple of falls. Hope you heal quickly. All this reading about people falling off just now has put me off a bit too. Currently snowing here at the moment.

Unfortunately falls don't spread themselves evenly over your cycling life - probabilty doesn't work like that.

Can't give you your mojo back, but remember why you cycle, and look forward to those lovely spring rides.

Thanks for the kind posts guys:thumbsup: Luckily it doesn`t happen too often with me, my last fall was 7 years ago so by laws of probability I was long overdue for another! Stay safe everybody:smile:

Lots of :hugs:for you. I don't understand how anybody can walk/drive past someone who needs help.
Take it easy, get better soon and take care when you're ready to get back on your steed
