Hi guys, I've been comparing a segment with a few different guys I'm following, namely the kom on this one hill.

My speed graph is spikey yet his is not. What gives? Think he rides with a garmin and I use android app.
Any insight much appreciated.
1st image Kom.
2nd a slow ride of mine.
3rd my 8th Kom place PR.

I know nothing about those devices but it is most likely that either one uses a rolling average or that one uses less frequent sampling times to save processing/file sizes.

Or one of you have a more regular cadence!

Not to the best of my knowledge. I think the rate is standard and it is just that the dedicated device is more fit for purpose. Some people use phones specifically because it gives a slightly dodgy trace on Strava which on a short segment can sometimes give them an advantage. I know you couldn't make it up.
You could ask on the computer forum linked at the top of the page.

You need to take your graph & stretch it sideways, he takes 3 minutes 5 seconds, your take 6 minutes 49 seconds, your graph needs to be over twice as wide as his to make a comparison.

Its because he's faster.

No, he's just done more base miles, and fewer junk miles.

My times 4:04 the 3rd image down. 6:49 is a slow time I found to show exaggerated spikes for the hard of seeing. One of my slower times I should add. To keep all things equal

That makes sense. Cheers for the thought.
Which is why the 6:49 is incredibly spike and the 4:04 is smoother but still spike compared to kom?

One of the roads I ride has a smooth graph, when I use the correct elevation link at Strava it comes up with a lot more spikes and drops. The road is relatively new, not even completed yet. I think when Strava corrects the elevation on the ride they may be using some old maps that don't take into account the excavation that was done on the road. There was no road there at all before, now it is a wide limited access highway with a big median in the middle. This is all pure speculation on my part though. Not sure it would even apply to your route.

The GPS accuracy is way off with phones compared to a GPS. It's quite obvious on the trace sometimes on Strava. Worth looking out for offers on the 200 or 500 long term.

And i think its responsible for some of the dubious KOM times , or they have there phone still on in the car
