It's simply more civilised too, it's a far more pleasant environment without twats using crowded public roads as their very own racetrack.

Yep,they're exploiting the grief of poor old confused Claire, the late lamented Paul Smith's partner. She serves as a kind of Denise Bulger, exploited by a callous media.

Poor woman, possibly mentally unstable from her mourning. Spouting dangerous nonsense she doesn't really understand.

Quite right to raise this, how horrid of the Evil Dark Lords of Murdoch to drag her into it.

I dare say they also conjectured callously about her mental stability, age, confusion, knowledge of road safety issues and understanding of what they quote her as saying.

Hanging (or similar) is too good (or bad) for anyone who would make such grotesque assumptions about the woman and what it is she does or doesn't understand.

No wonder our jails are so full!

Media criticised for misleading coverage of stats showing jump in casualties in 20mph zones

CTC and 20's Plenty for Us say coverage of 24 per cent rise ignored fact there are now more roads with 20mph limit.

In a blog post on the CTC website, its policy co-ordinator Chris Peck pointed out that coverage of the figures failed to take into account any increase in the extent of the road network now covered by 20mph zones; if that has grown by more than 24 per cent, the casualty rate will have actually gone down, he explained.
“Only a few commentators have seen through this nonsense,” he said. “Unfortunately these issues will reoccur as long as the Department for Transport continue to publish data on casualties without regard to the rate of injury per mile, per trip or per hour.

It's fitting that The Sun could only dredge up Armstrong to support their load of old twaddle- she's the person who moderates the sfaespeed website where posters joke about killing cyclists and say that speed camera firms "deserve" to have letter bombs sent to them.

What we do know is the average speed of all drivers appears to have dropped from 27 mph to 17 mph.

Average speed dropped by just 1mph in the South Bristol 20mph zone. Without enforcement it is a complete waste of time.

The London study puts the enforcement down as the installation of passive speed restraints (aka sleeping policemen). If so they are remarkably effective if a bit of a pain. Did they not do this in Bristol?
