Have to say I'm surprised to hear anyone mooting 'two thousand and fourteen'. It's so cumbersome. Obviously twenty-fourteen is right, and I'm baffled by the idea that age comes into it.

Wasn't it only in the early 2000s that people spoke the word thousand with any regularity? I have never ever given my date of birth in full (and that was in the middle of last century). 10 syllables instead of 4.
