Vollering went solo on the big climb with 37km or so to go. ELB tried to go with her but blew herself up in the process
1m15+ over silver medallist Kasia Niewiadoma by the finish. Oof!

Getting countries mixed up is all the rage at the moment… Lithuatvia, Aberbaijan, whatevs…
Seems I got that wrong on two counts. Firstly, it was Lithuania not Latvia (did I catch a glimpse of a Polish flag and get confused by the red and white?), secondly there were actually ten teams competing, three more than for the elite race.

Chapeau to Norway (wrong sort of Vikings) who beat France (silver) and Poland (bronze) to the magical wear-it-once-on-the-podium rainbows

I thought that was a good race. We don’t often see long range solo attacks like that in the women’s peloton and Demi did a great job. Kasia was an absolute fighter all the way, which I love. I admire Anna vdB for not contesting the final sprint, I assume she recognised the work Kasia had done and was being very sporting! And Demi looks great in that jersey, it’ll be good to see it next year. A very good day’s racing!

Well done to the Dutch team for its tactics. I hope Anna vdB wasn't too sad about the outcome. And chapeau to Kasia for her efforts.

But for me, Elise Chabbey was the best – without much of a team, she managed 4th again today (after 4th in the WC in Ruanda too), and despite today she leading the chase almost of the time on the last laps.

In interviews, she also strikes me as one of the most thoughtful, considerate, articulate riders - which I like, even though I know such characteristics aren't essential for top sportsmen/women..
