Inexplicably, this appears to be a bog standard short TTT (ten minutes), held on wide roads with good surface and visibility and not even the faintest hint of a bear-trap, crevasse or water hazard. It's as if the Vuelta just can't be bothered with the women.

I may have been a little quick with that post, three teams in a row have been late to the start gate, which suggests they've done something to muck with the timings behind the scenes

A TTT in the Vuelta is always something special. Have they put it on a beach so the UCI have to cancel it (make it only for team standings), or will it end in darkness so the riders can't see where they're going?

He's still only 21 so there should be plenty of room for improvement. Probably a touch too small to really threaten the main GC riders, though Remco isn't exactly a giant (still a good inch taller than Lenny). I'd say that a lot will go down to how good his recovery is and the ability to maintain form into the third week. He could do real damage in a MTF loaded third week at his weight if he isn't burnt out by the first fortnight.

I was impressed by how smooth much of his TT was today, despite him clearly pushing it on the cornering.

Yeah, I reckon 3rd step GT podium is within the realms of possibility and a Vuelta win in a year when the big boys didn't show up ready isn't just fantasy. Especially now he's out of Madiot's sticky grasp. Let Gaudu do the panachtastic great French hope stuff, Lenny should draw on his Spanish roots!
