They were both pretty empty at the line ....for a sec I thought he wasn't going to bother sprinting

Here's a question.

When McNulty was off the front day before yesterday he had a bike change. Car came up behind him, he stopped, they got the bike off the roof and off he went, having lost 20-30 sec.

So why did the car stop behind him? Why not stop ahead of him, remove the bike before he arrives and generally be more efficient.

Presumably this is because of rules.
