Audax speed - I think, maybe a little faster. I wouldn't make it, but others would

I'm looking forward to seeing how they go on in the Indian Pacific in March.
Perth to Sydney about 3200 miles.
Not something I'd ever want to do but I find these long distance events fascinating.

That is a different class of event. People die (occasionally) driving across the Nullarbor. There is a definitely a chance of dying cycling from Fremantle to Sydney. Obviously there is a chance of dying every day but you know what I mean.

Can someone bring me up to speed on the history of this one. Is it an offshoot of RAAM?

It's unlike TCR in that it accepts relay teams, and support vehicles whereas TCR seems to me to be a bit like Audax with knobs on (and it's a race).

May just say, bloody hell.

£1050 a solo rider and

"What’s not included
  • [...]
  • Accommodation
  • Daily meal "
Wait until you see the prices if you get the organisers to provide your (mandatory) support vehicle.

I fancy doing some endurance cycling (not the above ones )but as pointed out in previous posts some of the costs are ridiculous, even the LEJOG companies that run the challenges seem expensive. Audaxs for me :okay:

"The route for 2017 is divided into 19 stages of ~250 km each" (2934 miles) so assume 19 days not 15 (as per thread title). Looks like a money making venture to me though that depends on the quality of the accommodation and meals provided - oh, that's not included . . . (thank you @Tim Hall ) So what's the 1000 quid pay for, exactly?

Average speed 10.3kph non stop. Over 1000 individual (and some tandem) riders have to average 12.3kph on this year's 900 mile London-Edinburgh-London (including me, all things being well). The clock doesn't stop for B&B, but that, and all you can eat over the 5 days IS included in the entry fee. Some will go much faster.

Ah, that's a false assumption. According to the website, it's actually only 12 days for solo riders and less for teams.

So more than one stage per day.

It's starting to look like a scam to me. The website is full of missing images - there seem to be no images at all - many of which contain vital information, like the route. It's like the site is not ready to be live. It contradicts itself (eg 15 days on this page vs 12 days on another). If you click on the entry link, it says T&C are on the right, but they are not there. But I bet the bit where you enter your credit card works fine. The bit where they show you riders seems to suggest there was only one entrant last year.

Occams razor makes me think there is no event at all.

Ahem.

GPX files and maps mostly. And five places to stamp your card.

Best of luck with the LEL, I joined the Uk Audax and hope to enter many rides in the hope of doing the LEL one day before I am too old

I don't think it has as many entrants as the TCR either. The website suggests that in 2016 there was one team of four riders.
