no shock really, the Govt is doing the easy thing.

Reckon it's time to get down the bank and borrow a million, let's face it, they arent going to be in a hurry to get it back, and I would only following in the example lad down by the Chancellor.

Fortunately, in the long run, the market dictates. (let's hope we're not all dead by then}.

But it's not 2p on petrol yet. The price of petrol should remain the same because the 2p duty cancels out the decrease in VAT. In 13 months time VAT will return to 17.5% but the 2p duty will also stay. 13 months seems like a reasonable notice period.

Given that the cost of motoring has fallen in real terms, I don't think that motorists have too much to complain about.

Works out at about 0.4p a Litre.
Petrol in the USA was $4 while the Oil price was $150 a Barrel but it dropped to $2 when the Oil price went down to $50.

Here it went from £5.20 ish a Gallon to £4 a Gallon now.


We do get ripped off although in the past year I guestimate there are more car owners than there was this time last year.

Given that the cost of motoring has fallen in real terms, I don't think that motorists have too much to complain about.

When I worked at the Grangemouth refinery a few years ago a litre of petrol cost 18p to produce, refine and transport to the petrol station. At that time IIRC a litre of unleaded was about 85p. The government generates a vast amount of revenue from fuel duty so they aren't likely to give up that cash cow anytime soon.
