After 9 months being the house bitch and loving every second of being at home with my baby son and wife and screwing Gordon for every penny I could get out of him I'm now back at work, living away from home and I bloody hate my new job!

Get this, I'm rarely customer facing, I work in a creative environment doing wizzy consumer electronics things and I'm responsible for the product nmanagement of new stuff...and and and...I was told today that my converse trainers, jeans, tshirt and jacket look was not what was expected of senior management in the office and would I please wear a suit?

For the love of god - why??????????????

Does it make me work better, harder, smarter - no!

Does it make people respect my abilities more - no!

Does it make me feel comfrtable in my working environment - no!

Would I wear a suit if needed - yes, gladly love wearing them, love my Paul Smith and Boateng and Prada but for the right occasions only!

What makes it worse, I look around the office at my next/M&S suit clad colleagues and how shabby, shiny trouser bottomed, badly shod, tie and shirt combo, curled collar and baggy jacket pocketted do they all look. Suits in my book equal sartorial elegance, sharpness and presence - not Charlie Chaplin lookalikes. If anything my suited colleagues give the poor impression and not me.

Rant over.

Don't worry, your designer suits will soon be shiny bottomed and your shirts frayed at the cuffs and collars then you'll really look the part.

fyi Gordon doesn't have any money of his own, he gets it all from taxpayers like me.

Still, I'm glad it isn't all going to waste bailing out the banks and that you enjoyed your 9 months on it.

You can get a suit from Primark for about £20.00.

Not the best quality, but it'll do for a while.

We had something similar a few years back. The new bosses wanted us all to look smart & get out act together.

It took 5 years, but we ground them down. We were even allowed shorts in the hot weather the other week. Not a pretty site on some colleagues !

Yes, well, er, just get on with it!

Yours faithfully

A shiny suited person. ;)

PS Why wear a quality suit to work? You would ruin it. So I sympathise with all your Next and M & S wearing colleagues I'm afraid. No one likes wearing them, but it's part of the meal ticket, rat race, tell me why I don't like Mondays, thingy.

I chucked my suits away in 1988.
If your position demands it - get over it and wear one jp - your choice.
I might buy a suit one day - the cheapo ones in Asda and Tescos must be pretty good for the price...I would probably buy five of them - all the same.
Nice.;)

Ooooh, do I have to start a new thread to brag about the over priced clothing I own, or can I just add to this one...

Coz in terms of suits...quality lasts and George at Asda doesn't and it shows very very quickly.

I'm off to Saville row to get one of those pink lined Rapha cycling suit tweed jobbies.

And bloody hell, while I'm at it, how snobby is Tunbridge Wells, I just opened my mouth to buy a sarnie at the local sarnie shop and the woman looked at me as if I was speaking Urdu. My Brummigen can't be all that bad can it?

Is that Royal as in feckless, over aggrandised, foppish and irrelevant and usefull only as a tourist attraction for vacant Americans - if it is, then this place summs up Royal to a T!

lol - just trying to imagine a Royal Birmingham!

I have noticed said hills, bike is coming back down with me on Monday.
