3D at the movies

I didn't really see the point of 3D full stop until I watched a bit of a 3D sports broadcast (yes, ice hockey, naturally). That convinced me. On the basis of that, there will be scope for 3D to enhance a movie over and above the gimmicky 'wow' aspects of it.

It only really makes a difference when it adds to the movie - such as when there are a lot of huge special effects.

Not to mention most movies don't actually fully utilize the technology. Avatar was the only movie that I can actually say was an "experience" largely due to the 3D portion. Even the new HP was okay but many movies just add it in as an afterthought which is almost insulting to make you pay more for nothing.

I saw the Harry Potter filum.Once in the local flea pit.The Cottage Road Cinema.Then a week later in Screen number one at the main cinema down at Kirkstall which was in 3D.Now i only have one eye also.But i did enjoy the film much more in 3D.

I have a friend who has 'lazy eye' (he really means strabismus) who says he can't see much 3D at the cinema. Not sure how true this is but he says he can't see much.

I saw Avatar in 3D and just couldn't see it was worth viewing that way. The effect didn't really impress. The first swing towards the screen did stand out, but I think from then on, my brain adjusted and didn't really fall for it.

I tried again a few weeks ago, when my son asked me to take him the the latest Transformers film and again the effects just didn't seem to stand out.

Perhaps it's only really effective for people who are more suggestive and easily hypnotised?
