My son has just returned from one of his "rides" initially started with me, but after 6 miles, I gave up as the wind was too much, we then came back, adjusted his bike and he then went out on his own doing 47 miles in 3:08 averaging 15 mph!

This was his first "long" ride on his first road bike, previously he had an MTB.

Walked in, said he was starving but apart from that fine - how does he do it?? prior to getting into road riding a few weeks back he has never been particularly sporty.

From a proud dad, trouble is he kills me when we ride together, he flies up hills like they are not there.

I'm 47, unfit, and a bit overweight, but I have just got a road bike, and gradually building up, might be a while before I can keep up though.

Thanks David for your comments, although he is 13 he is quite mature, has always been on the roads, and is very cautious, I track him using google latitude so know exactly where he is, I think he will be doing this for a good few years now, just need to find a club for him to ride with, most will only allow him to ride if he is supervised by a parent, he does go out with the guys from 53-12 in Colchester, and they have been brilliant with him, so thanks guys!

Well done to your lad, I am trying to get my elder daughters to help me out on the tag-a-long but get constant reminders from passer-bys that they arent pedalling and coasting along at the back....

What bike does he ride?
I'm a Colchester cyclist and I need to be able to recognise him so if I'm out and I see him I can get off and pretend to have a puncture.

47 in 3:08 is good work, especially in these winds.
