I have a massive old roses jar full of 1ps, 2ps, 5ps, weighs a ton (ish) so at some point need to drag it to the bank. I think my local NatWest has a counting machine for customers that doesn’t stiff you for a fee like coin star. I can’t be arsed to bag them up! Could be a hundred quid to change for slipperly plastic 50s

Our local Asda, used to have a "coinstar" machine. I think that was the name. Used to throw all my loose change into it , in return for a voucher to spend in store. A little bit went to charity, but an easy process.

Higher value note, fewer people making large withdrawals. Increases the likelihood of the machine not being used. And not many places willing to take the note.
Also increases the number of notes in a machine, from three to four. Increasing operating costs.

that's not how cit works, if it were they'd fill with small notes

The worst were Scottish £100 notes when I worked in retail as a student in 1990s.

That was a scary note when you worked in Surrey didn’t know Scotland even had an £100 note and hadn’t a clue what to do with it.

Good afternoon,

There’s one in Worcester that dispenses ONLY £5 notes and it has a £50 limit.

It is also free to use, despite all the other machines operated by the same company in the area charging £1.99 or more per withdrawal.

The atm company have clearly thought about this and the machine has been there for few years.

With the rise in privately operated atms maybe there is an issue related to the total amount of cash across all of their atms. Whose money is it until it is dispensed?

I don’t know the current situation but way back when the cash in the atm was owned by whoever operated the atm in England but by the central bank in Scotland.

Bye

Santander have ATMs where you can ask for a specific mix of notes, including £5, notes sure about £50s. That is in Newcastle, not sure about elsewhere.

I had one of the first cards issued. It was a midland bank card, which allowed 10 withdrawals of £10.

I often wish I'd saved all my bank cards. They would be worth something now, as everybody destroys them as soon as they get a replacement.
