Being a "Fab Foodie", I hope you will be heading to Ravi's for the best curry in Dubai!
(Well, it was, 20 years ago ).
I've no idea what we're doing yet in terms of the details, but I will be attending the 'Gulfood' show, one of the biggest in the world ... Nom nom nom :becool:

It's a bit more complicated than that...
It's one of the best flights I've ever had, the plane is very smooth, spacious and quiet and the standard of service in economy is as good as many others business class. Recommended.

I'd highly recommend the service upstairs in Emirates on the A380. Obviously it helps if you're not paying for it.....

Sadly we don't get business even in long haul unless you have a very, very good reason. It was peachy in economy though.

We used to have a policy of any flight over eight hours being business class, but that was scrapped a few years ago.

Luckily I don't do flights like that anymore.

Watched one of the EK 380's taking off as I taxied on arrival at LHR on Friday. Always a pretty impressive sight, using all of the runway and such a shallow ascent angle.

Maybe one day I'll get to have a go in one, but (luckily) my line of work is unlikely to take me to Dubai.

Most of my travel is in Europe, but once in a while, for a special treat, I'm allowed to go to India. We have special arrangements with Qatar and Emirates because we send people out there very regularly. The only downer is arriving at silly o'clock and leaving at even sillier o'clock because there are only a couple of flights a day.

Where were you arriving from on Friday?

Well I never expected to be coming here either!
The only other time I was on a 380 was Bankok to Hong Kong and we sat at the front downstairs. She's a big old bird!

I noticed a very large proportion of flights were night trips. I don't mind, but not in economy ....

*cough* business class is pretty good, especially on the Air France A380 from Johannesburg to Paris.....

A good travel agent can wangle C class for not much extra, especially if you book well in advance; we used to have an over four-hours rule but that seems to have been forgotten in recent years.

IST - in transit from CAI. TK is really quite pleasant, although Ataturk airport leaves something to be desired...

Going back on TK1980 tomorrow, for two weeks in Istanbul.

My company has a policy of no better-than-economy travel. None of the trips for us engineers are billable to the customer, so there is a desire to keep costs low. Not a big issue, as most travel is short haul around europe. Did once do LHR-ZRH-NRT straight into a day of working - that was somewhat unpleasant....

Hmm...never had a travel agent that could do anything much better than normal online pricing so I've got rid of them and book everything myself these days.

Generally to Far East business class fare is about Economy x 3 as a minimum. And that entails connecting through rather than direct (I do a lot of MAN - AMS - Far East). Direct from UK to Far East is about Economy x 5 ie £500 v £2500

I do IST a few times a year, it's no great shakes. Tough when you get straight off the plane and onto the job though ....
