I've a bike equipped with 7800 Dura Ace and wondered if the new 7900 rear derailleur will work with it. The Shimano compatibility chart http://cycle.shimano-eu.com/publish...s-0024-downloadFile.html/Road_charts_2009.pdf says not for sti bikes, but if you scroll down to the bit for flat bar bikes, all the rear derailleurs are cross compatible which implies they all have the same cable pull and so all work together.
I wondered if anyone here has tried it, as I have a 7900 RD ready for the summer but I'll sell it on before I scratch it up if it's not compatible after all.
