Yenrod has got me thinking - Bolt completed his 100m in 9.58s, Hoy began his 2007 World Championsip Kilo final with 11.19s for the first 125m. Those are average speeds of 37.58km/h and 40.21km/h. Using the average speed (obviously ignoring acceleration), Hoy would have done an 8.95s.

We know it takes longer to accelerate on a bike, so could it be that over 100m a runner would win?

What, field test, bike on the athletics track side by side to Usain Bolt ?

That was a very fast race, not just from Usain Bolt who will rightly get all the kudos for it.

Why not?! It would probably need a specially built track or one with enough safe run-off area at the end for Hoy - can't imagine riding round the curve at those speeds on a track bike!

That's part of the problem with being American. You are raised and trained to believe you are the best and no-one can touch you, so defeat is so much harder to stomach.

He looks so relaxed, both in mind and movement, compared to the Gay. Can't help but feel that that's part of it.

9.58!!! I literally could not believe it! I never thought a human being would get near that time in my lifetime. And he's only 22 so he's got years of development ahead of him. What is he capable of? He is one supreme athlete and I take my hat off to him and thank him for leaving me breathless in excitement last night. What a hero!
