how can I put this delicately - lower order bikes.

I call them "schoolboy bikes". They often represented the first taste of freedom for their owners so they are definitely worth preserving.

Funny thing is they ride really nicely. bit heavy perhaps but only a couple of pounds over a 531 butted (as long as the bars, seatpost, pedals and crank are swapped for Aluminium ones)
