I wonder what the benefits are.

There's a recumbent back to back tandem in the UK on the Audax circuit.

You don't have to talk to the stoker?

Which brings to mind my Mother's response to my teenage 'whatever' stance during a maternal bollocking:

"I might as well be talking to the back of your head"

I don't get tandem riding. It's anti social and rude no matter what orientation the riders choose to adopt. ;)

Oh that would be so cool for travelling with my eldest who gets more travel sick travelling forwards than travelling backwards haha

Now here's a better tandem design - you can actually see each other's faces when conversing.

If I had one I'd have it modified with a two meter cantilever so that my petite wife stands some chance of counterbalancing me.

Only someone who's never tried it could possibly say something so wrong.

The main problem I've got with all these "clever" bikes is that they must be pretty mechanically inefficient.
