I'm glad we didn't go this year!

I was there last year and we're planning on going next year as a family member is planning on competing. Hopefully there won't be a repeat of that. Unless of course it's a tail wind in which case I may put my name down myself.

I believe there is an elite race at the beginning, certainly was the year I went.

Yup, there are tandems as well. They take off in their own groups.

There's a nice clip somewhere of the tandem riders taking off, charging down the street only to meet the headwind and all come to a dead stop and plenty of falls. Thereafter the tandems blow down the road and cleated lycra-runners hopping after the bikes.

Generally the wind blows from the south east so you get a headwind going out towards the Cape and a good blow going back through the western suburbs.

Yeap, that's about right. You can be pedalling for all your worth and still be going backwards.
