Thought I'd make its own thread. Product: Rheal Gut Health (powder)

My partner bought it weeks ago and never really took it. Then last week I had frequent and unrelenting indigestion, everything burned as it was going down, I was burping up bile, and generally feeling very tired and orrible. Not really had it this bad before and I haven't really been eating or drinking anything different.

So I took some (a teaspoon in the morning in water), and after 2 days my stomach was better. Now after 6 days I feel like a new man. I have really noticed the difference with A) being able to eat or drink anything without it hurting. B) not feeling tired during the day and C) waking up fresh and ready to go, like I've slept for 3 months.

My fairly educated guess is that I had indigestion once, took a Rennie, which lowered the acidity in my stomach. This meant that I was not digesting food properly, so to compensate my body produced more bile which made the problem worse. Poor digestion meant I was not extracting the energy from my foods properly, hence the tiredness. This stuff (Rheal Gut Health) restored order in the stomach department. You can tell it is quite acidic at forst but also soothing.

I did a lot of reading on this when my Dad has the same thing years ago. Except, he was prescribed Gaviscon for 7 years by his GP. He didn't get any better, until he went to a homeopath who gave him something similar to what I've had. He was better in less than 2 weeks. And has been fine ever since.

Don't bother bashing this if you are a staunch anti-alternative medicine character. But I'd urge anyone to try it if they have, or often get this type of symptom

An interesting and timely post - sounds like you've had some enviable results!

I've been looking at stomach acidity as a potential root for my various ills as the symptoms fit, and have just ordered some Betaine HCL tablets which seem widely regarded.

On my travels I found stuff that would corroborate your father's experience - i.e. low / weak stomach acid causes reflux / indigestion which is then treated with alkaline medications which unsurprisingly make it worse.

If I have no luck with the route I've taken I'll look into your suggestion - although the website does look a bit sketchy!

Inulin will no doubt work similarly but at a tiny fraction of the price.
There's prunes, oats, vitamin D, probiotics and many other useful things that enhance it too.

As said it looks overhyped to the extreme.

yes, no doubt there a quite a few similar products out there. If they taste like grass and mud then they're probably good

I doubt these do. Inulin is very mild/neutral with a bit sweetness.
I imagine that very expensive kiwi fruit based item is somewhat similar.

I know there are lots of things that can result in reflux, and understand that some of them need medication to prevent oesophageal damage.

For me losing a bit of weight and massively improving my diet keeps my reflux under control. No alcohol, small meals, no eating after about 6pm work about 90% of the time.

an inflamed gallbladder (cholecystitis) or chronic gallbladder disease can cause, or present with symptoms that mimic, acid reflux. Inflammation often causes digestive issues like nausea, abdominal pain, bloating, and heartburn. Gallbladder issues can also lead to an increase in acid or trigger bile reflux, which feels similar to traditional acid reflux.

Right i have taken this off the WWW,you see i suffered for years with acid reflux, one hospital doctor was concerned about my eating habits,ie shift work patterns and eating a full meal with pudding at 01-30 in the morning. So fast forward to a bad week of reflux.on a Saturday tea time i walked to Sainsbugs to buy another bottle of Gaviscon,on my walk home i was drinking it out of a brown paper bag they gave me.i went to bed i felt awful i had a reflux that filled my throat,it got up my nose and burned like hell.i was in pain in my stomach.Right thats it i dialled 999.The ambulance pulled up,in pain i opened the kitchen door unlocked the security gate, the paramedic was just feet away from me,i groaned fell on my knees vomitted like the exorcist ,all, over the driveway,he just said hospital mate, and like that off i went.nine days in hospital my gallbladderr was too inflamed to operate on .one week later it was removed, all has been well ever since, but i avoid spicy, tangy food, curries are mild and creamy like the Nepal,so take care and think about the gallbladder.

Reflux can be a sign of other issues and on it's own it can lead to esophagus cancer amongst other nasties.
So if the reflux is reoccurring don't keep self medicating (either from the chemist or the local snake oil distributor) but get yourself to your doc and get it checked out, the self medication might just be masking the symptoms while they get worse.
That might mean a hospital and endoscope session which won’t be pleasant but it's better than the other alternative.
Hopefully it's nothing serious.

I’m on Lanzaprazole and have been for some years. I have reduced it to one tablet three times a week.

I’d be pleased to try something that is kinder on my aging body.
