First of all not sure if this is the right section to talk about a race but as it was not a formal race but an informal event I will continue....I did my first (almost 100k) last Saturday. What an introduction to my first longish event, the idea was we were collecting money for a charity in remembrance of a colleague who died recently and so a number of keen riders volunteered and a just giving page was set up. The route took us from Gloucester....to Stroud...to Yate and finally into centre Bristol. The ride should also have included Bath but the weather last Saturday was to wet and stormy that we decided to fine tune the route. I can only say that I had a great time, bonds of friendship were forged, and lots of coffee and cake was eaten at two fantastic refuelling stops! (cyclist always seem to know the best places to stop for a break) In total I notched up 55miles, slightly short of my 60 miles target but as a first event I really enjoyed. I had no real trouble with the route as I commute by bike each day and am also a keen runner. I rode my kinesis bike....

and she (yes it's a she!) performed like a dream. So what race in the South west should I enter next, I would ideally love a closed event and again 100k? any suggestions? I think cycling in a group is fantastic and am even considering joining a cycling club^_^

Good ride - are you going to pass on the cake shop recommendations - I cycle in that area and I'm rather partial to cake!

Will try the Berry Blue, thanks @runner !

The Tortworth shop is only just over a mile from my house, so a little difficult to justify stopping there to refuel!
