After failing to get out at the weekend, went out this morning to try and get some miles in. Managed 30 hilly miles in the time I had but the wind was brutal, particularly on a couple of open stretches, and the legs were really feeling it towards the end. Was originally going to do 40 miles, but 30 miles this morning felt like double that! Did I enjoy it? Not really, but I do feel better for getting out!

I had a bit of a hard time on the bike today too... i live right on the coast, gets tedious sometimes. I just knock it into a lower gear and raise my cadence a bit, accept the fact you might be going 5mph slower on a windy day.

Beautiful day:sun: , just a gentle south-westerly wind here. The daffodils are out, lambs gambolling in the fields, spotted a decent bit of flotsam on my :bicycle: run and and got it home on my luggage rack, spring is here, all is well with the world.:wahhey: ^_^

I wondered if Bile was a hill down south:biggrin:

The hills were getting called much worse things than bile this morning:biggrin: . Nearly got blown off the North Downs when I got to the top of Crown Hill out of Wye (for those that know it).

Had the same today on a couple of stretches where all I could do was drop into a low gear and, despite spinning really fast, just crawl along. Just checked my computer and as someone who averages around 15mph, averaged just under 13 today which is actually not as bad as I thought given the hills and wind!

When it's windy I try and find a route that will have the wind behind me on the ride home. This morning the weather claimed the wind was a north easterly, so I went out in a northerly direction and certainly had a head wind. Then I turned for home. Did I have a tail wind? Like heck I did, it was a head wind most of the way home as well.

I guess it's character building :bravo:

Here we get side winds real bad... you fear to go too fast down hills because they can lift the bike right out from under you if your not careful.

My commute was into the wind for the full 9.5 miles this morning, and I was struggling to get much above 10 mph a lot of the time. Ended up averaging 12 mph which was about 2 mph slower than last week. Much more pleasant coming home though.
