Has anyone been watching A History of Scotland presented by Neil Oliver on Saturday mornings? It's great.

Haven't been watching it [didn't know it was on, TBH ] - but up here, we tend to be "given" our 'history of Scotland' by Eck-the-Fish ...

Perhaps he was reflecting on the pitiable history of Scottish rock music: Bay City Rollers, Orange Juice, The Big Country, Jesus and Mary Chain, Simple Minds. Some of them weren't bad, but if they were the best I'd be depressed too.

Sadly I find Neil Oliver has one of the most soporific deliveries of any presenter.

If you consider the Bay City Rollers to be a ROCK band , then I would dare to suggest that your musical taste might be the problem here!

I used the term rock band in its very loosest meaning.

I remember a late night at a party hanging out with a young lady and a very loud sound system playing the ballad of Hollis Brown. One of the heaviest, most moving and powerful songs ever

MY mother is a Scot, and she was called in to a Parents meeting and informed that we were being taught English History.

1.The stone of Scone was English and not "nicked from the Scots in the first place"
2. It was not a fake, and in fact the hearthstone of a Scottish farm, whilst the real thing is kept safe in Scotland

Both of which I had come out with in class!

That is fantastic. My favourite film of all time, and I even planned a Cycle Tour to visit the locations!
