all their tops look excellent but they've always looked disapointing in real life, the materials seems a bit bulky and conservatively cut, somewhere between road and off road

I ordered one on sunday for £40.50. now it's time to wait unpatiently for mid feb.

Hi Gaz, I've been tempted to do the same. Have they taken money from you yet or will they take funds when they dispatch?

Not owning a car, I'll have to pass on this one. It *looks* pretty though...

But that's the whole point of ipayroadtax.com - roads are paid for out of general taxation so drivers have no more right to use them than cyclists.

The road fund licence which designed to pay for road upkeep was abolished in 1936. Motor vehicle owners must nowadays pay Vehicle Excise Duty to legally use their vehicle on the road, the receipts from which are not ring-fenced for spending on roads.

From wikipedia:

Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) is a British excise duty, which has to be paid to acquire a vehicle licence for most types of motor vehicle. A vehicle licence is usually required if a vehicle is to be legally used on the public roads. The tax, although commonly referred to as road tax, is not hypothecated for spending on roads, the entire proceeds contributing to central government revenues.

Well yes, we know that, but the average moton doesn't and the jersey may well be seen as some sort of 'invitation' to abuse - a bit like a red rage to a bull suggestion.

The average motorist couldn't care less and tbh, why should they. I don't really care how the roads are paid for as long as they are in a safe condition. I've never really had someone argue about 'road tax' with me though.

It's not a top I'd wear, bit too stuck up. A funny one is bound to get a better response, nicer overtakes and friendly interactions IMO....shame I've just got a boring brown top, haha.

Indeed - and the average motorist isn't a moton. The average motorist is no problem to cyclists, as the vast majority of motorists aren't out to get us.

Alas, I have had the "I pay road tax you don't" line yelled at me, and that sort of brain isn't likely to appreciate the niceties of "there's no such thing as road tax" when they are in mid-rant driving past me waay too close and pointing me in the direction of a footpath.

I prefer the humorous Foska jerseys.

You could always cycle nekkid, Thomas, you have a penchant for it

Any lycra-based top automatically becomes a little bit funny when I put it on.

I like it more as a design image than as a campaigning tool.
