My opinion, it’s really not worth the effort unless you like messing with computers for its own sake. I used to, years ago but just don’t have the time now. It’s certainly not worth spending money on. Best case you’ll end up with something that will run but will be marginal to get anything useful done.

But even if it is way outdated, it was only a fiver and it works, so it's there in case my current one conks out.
And I like living in the past. I still play CD's in my car and old scratchy LP records at home.🧐

For what it’s worth I would put a light Linux distro on it, at least you would be able to safely connect to the internet with it, without risking ne’er do wells hacking it, XP is a no no now

There’s nothing personal of Accy’s on this laptop, as long as he doesn’t visit dodgy sites he won’t get infected. With nothing of value on the laptop I’d just use it as is.
