It's different to Topic Ratings - which is the stars on a topic.

The reputation system adds a small icon at the bottom-right of each post and when you click it, you give the person +1 on their reputation total.

For an example of the button and how the rep system looks, have a look at this topic in the IPS support forums:

http://community.inv...k-to-main-menu/

Look at the second post by Planetby - see how they've been given +3 rep by other members; then click their profile and you'll see they have 46 points in total.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
Shaun

In fairness, you also need to be able to dis the rep of someone as well.

In explanation: I experienced 'karma' - both positive and negative - on another forum (an astronomy one), and it was an utter disaster. (In fact, I made known my views on it, on the forum itself, and had my karma docked in consequence  ) Eventually commonsense prevailed and the karma was discontinued - alas! I had deserted the forum in the meantime. Although still registered I've hardly ever been back.

What happened with karma, was that the clique (don't deny it! Every forum in cyberspace has its clique) bolstered up their own, and certain unpopular members, for whatever reason, were 'minus'ed. So much for not prejudicing new starters on a forum!
