Who rode this bike? Isn't it a beauty! Nostalgia buffs should get this. I did my research, so I hope I got it right. HAHAHA!
A little bloke wearing a bandana? That was close, nearly left the d out.
Marco Pantani? I only know because there was one for sale recently for crazy money.

The Pirate
Someone in the Yellow Jersey and following team orders?
I bought (a MUCH bigger) one of those Scandium-framed Bianchi bikes at the time, and saw one of the pirate's bikes in the shop! His bike had been left uncleaned so it still had the stains on it from a mucky race.
He was training on the Costa Blanca when I was there on an amateur training camp in the early 2000s, a couple of years before he died. I saw him going up a climb at a very impressive pace as I descended.
A few days later, I spotted him again, sitting in front of a seafront cafe with a team mate. I pointed him out to the group I was with. They refused to believe that it was him because 'his ears don't look right'. I told them that he'd been really offended by Armstrong calling him 'Elefantino' ('Little elephant') and had subsequently had cosmetic surgery on them. Some of my fellow riders wandered over and said hello. Pantani looked a bit uncomfortable but smiled and gave a couple of them his autograph, then we left him alone to relax with his mate.
No - he didn't seem comfortable with the attention so I kept my distance.Interesting story. I liked Pantani. He was a super cyclist. I loved the way he rode. He always approached a climb from the back. Looked at their discomfort and then realed them in, one at a time.
Did you not go over with your mates to meet him? I would love to have shaked his hand.
No - he didn't seem comfortable with the attention so I kept my distance.
Every time I read or hear that name Armstrong I get my back up. That pig dog offended everyone. The scumbag should be behind bars, and I don’t mean handlebars.
I just picked up a book about him in the charity shop yesterday, sure it's been mentioned before on here. I've put it right on the top of the book pile for my next read.
