[ooh just got the hang of this reply thing lol]- you misunderstand- Im not new to cycling just the road malarky.

Returning cyclist.Make that rusty returning cyclist.
My better half got a road bike a few years ago, before that she had only ever been a part time leisure cyclist, now well, I suppose you could say she has taken to it rather well [somewhat of an understatement].

16 mile first ride with my 9 year old ! 2 new bikes we were flying!

Yikes! I love touring but that would not be fun for me. I doubt my wife would have taken to touring if I expected her to do anything like that. The first tour I took her on was three days, 40 miles a day and in bed and breakfasts. This April we will be setting off to ride around the coast of Britain, about 5,500 miles and camping all the way. See, my patience has paid off. ;)

Same here

My first "Tour" with my wife was the Bristol - Bath Cycle track!

Cycled from Bath to Bristol fully laden, lunch in Bristol then cycled back

She was then convinced that she could do a reasonable distance and we competed that C2C later that year.

She has now toured many thousands of miles including the Great Glen

I once bought my wife a bike...three years later, I sold it again with the tag 'As new'...I was told in no uncertain terms to never try to get her to do something she didn't want to do!
Missing out in my opinion...but I learned!

Oh I don't think its a softening up,not in that way anyway, he wants us all to go touring, when the boys are old enough. That's what he thinks, I'm not doing 100+ miles a day fully loaded he can stuff that!
Anyway my youngest likes his home comforts and he'll need his mummy, probably until he's at least 30 Im guessing.

laugh.
studies show that he'll be done with you by 25

a 'hybrid pro' doesn't sound like a road bike to me!
If all you've ever ridden is a contraption designed not to break when throwing yourself off a mountain top, anything looks like a' road bike' !!!
