Was this you?

Old Kent road, 8.00 ish (possible a quarter past) this morning

If so, you had me fooled. You appeared (to a fool like me) to be something of a casual rider, perhaps even a bit of an old crumbly.

You were wearing jeans and a cardy, brown leather shoes, had a pannier, a set of mudguards and the usual paraphernalia that us commuters tend to strap to our bikes

The first clue that something else was going on was your rapid acceleration and speed (see vid below), followed by your bike control and confidence. Then upon closer inspection, I noticed;

Specialist shoes (disguised as city brogues)
Spotless bike (shiny rear cassette and hub)
Club Cap
Despite the amount of attachments (panniers gaurds etc) not a single rattle or sound from the bike…just a smooth hum

I wondered if you had full club lycra on under your cardy and so choose to refer to you as a CRID.

Club Rider In Disguise.

Nice moves, a cracking pace and one of those riders that you feel totally comfortable riding behind (lets face it, I had no hope of getting in front!) as everything they do is calm, ordered and predictable.

CRID I like that, I commute in ordinary clothes and I'm a club rider, when I'm fit I have a reasonable turn of pace. I've often wondered why some drivers appear to be unable to judge my pace, maybe thats part of it.

It's good to see strong, well-balanced riding, isn't it. I can't hope to do the powerful bit, but I do aim to keep some control and poise.

Meanwhile, I've been searching for an acronym for Arrogance Unimpaired by Driving Intelligence....

Saw one late last night on the way to work, from a distance ordinary clothes including jeans.
Closer inspection revealed some rather fancy Look pedals and decent looking shoes, set off from the lights and he was gone :hello:

Ride It Like You Stole It!
Might have been testing the new Spesh Fast electric bike. Could just about fit it to a venge, but the hub motor would give you away.

It's remarkable the formal looking clothes you can get that are secretly proper cycling gear these days.

For example - he appears to be wearing these shoes:

Then you've got all the B-Spoke, Brooks, Dashing Tweed, Muxu, Swrve and Rapha stuff that looks dead sharp and still performs.

Not sure about the 'CRID' acronym, though. Why does someone have to be a be a member of a cycling club to be fast?

Thats them!

but its not just about speed (although his pace was rapid) he had a confidence, a cycling manner that suggests that cycling is more than just a rare/mundane activity for him. You only get that from being a member of a cycling club...

just like you ...and before you say it, you ARE a member of a cycling club...we all are... this cycling club, (you don't have to ride every Saturday to be a member.)

many of us are CRIDS!

Sure it wasn't these. The ones in the picture above look a bit iffy, however Dromarti shoes look the biz, just wish I could afford some. I think I've seen him before. It's the pannier that signals him out for me as I've tried to drop him thinking guy with pannier can't be that quick. However if it is indeed the same bloke he's nearly impossible to get rid of!

Interesting you gained that impression...there's a reason he came to my attention in the first place

...ahem:blush:

I kept up though!!!

his were "slender" like the Dromarti's but they had something etched on the side (like the campagnola logo...do campagnola make shoes?) and the Dramarti's dont appear to

so Jez looks more the ticket (if it weren't for those huge soles!)

Oh man those Dromarti shoes ... forget those ones I linked to. I wish I was rich - I'd be the sharpest looking bloke on the road and dropping lycra clad roadies like flies. Whilst riding no hands, drinking a cup of tea and smoking a pipe. And reading a broadsheet newspaper.
