Well i've done it!!!, visited my local Evans store today parted with a large sum of dosh and bit the bullet!!!!
I'm now a proud owner of a Cannondale synapse disc 5 105, i favored this over the specialized because of the 105 mainly!!
I know i may have issues with the wheels in time as i am quite heavy right now, but to hell with it, i've done it now so onwards and upwards let the weight drop of and a fitter me here i come, i have never been so determined as i am right now!!!
Still a bit nervous on it at the min, it so don't look like it will hold me, but i've done a few miles already and no bent wheels yet lol

Lovely bike  and they are stronger than most folk seem to think. I am sure it will be fine. If your weather is like mine at the moment you will soon get the miles built up and the weight will start to fall off.

Nice looking bike that, and well done for choosing wheels with lots of spokes- I'm sure you'll be fine and the weight will drop off.

Enjoy the nice weather.

Hope you enjoy the bike, but cycling will not lose you weight if you still eat to much. That is speaking from personal experience.
Depends how far you ride I can lose as much as 100grms on a ride like yesterday.
@Hunterforce @screenman is right though however the way to lose weight on a bike is to keep your H.R. down as this burns more fat than carbs, I have just fitted 105 Kit to my 6 year old Viking and its the best improvement next to the wheel upgrade I have done to the bike.
Enjoy your rides.

You don't mention your weight, (and I'm not prying), but have a look a THIS blog.

The author is one of our own, (@gb155 ), but he's not on here much these days, although he is still cycling

FYI - I'm a bigger guy, always have been and probably always will be, but in the past I've been pushing 20 stone, yet I used to ride carbon framed bikes with 20/24 spoke wheels without any issue, well I broke one rear spoke after 2 years, so I regard that as without issue ^_^

As for confidence, it will come. When I first rode a modern rode bike after years of MTBing I nearly $hat my pants  I used to have to slow right down just to reach down for a bottle, but the more you ride the more natural it will become.

So well done, now go for a ride ^_^

PS: Cannondale make great bikes :becool:

the 105 mate is so silky smooth i love it, and yeah wheels will be an upgrade in time i feel, but i need to get some SPD's, this will be my first upgrade, but i need to get a little more brave first lol
