Here's the new baby. Brought it home last week. Just finished cutting the chain and adjusting the derailleurs. Also put these fenders on for a preliminary fit. Need a bit more hardware.

Will ride this bike from Florida to Japan next year.

Thanks, ianrauk! Now I see it. You're the king.

I'm keeping a blog of the build at www.buildingatroll.blogspot.com. Also will be including adjustments and tweaks as they happen.

I have a little over a year of testing before I hit the road for the long haul to Japan. High hopes for this bike. The Troll is already proving itself on the byways of the world; I hope mine lives up to the reputation of its brethren.

No probs.

So what's the plan for the route.
Sounds very interesting.

Thanks, guys.

Yes, the seat. I had just put on a new seatpost right before I took this pic. Hadn't tweaked it yet. Tomorrow morning is the inaugural proper ride. Been cruising around the block today, as it's raining cats and dogs. Spring in Florida.

ianrauk, my route is here: www.tohokuforward.org. This is the site that gives the details about what and why. You can reach me via email from there, too. Thanks for the interest!

ianrauk-

Yes, I'll be blogging when I can. As a daily keep-up, though, I'll be using Facebook via smartphone. Do you do Facebook? Send me an email via my website, and we'll talk more. My email address is listed on the "About Me" page of my site.

During the next year, I'll be testing out some new gear with as many mini-tours as possible here in Florida and to the north into Georgia. I haven't done a long tour in quite a few years, and I have completely re-outfitted. My new tent makes my old one look like an igloo (I mean the weight of an igloo, whatever that may be)!

I must tell you (and any other of you Brits reading this) that I dream of one day riding the UK. As a former lit major in university years ago, I am highly enamored of your Lake District. I really need to ride it. My life is not complete until then!

Hold it right there pardner! Florida?

To Japan??

You going to put pontoons on it???

I have to figure that part out. A friend suggested I go north to Alaska and cross at the Bering Straights. I think I'll fly instead. Unless you know someone in the freighter industry who can carry me from the west coast of the US to Tokyo.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess. Good luck with the trip. I think you may well be able to get a freighter to Japan. Check on the net.
