A New Turbo Trainer Vs A Second Hand Turbo

I have often seen second hand turbo trainers for sale at 1/3 and 1/2 the price of a new one are these a bargin or not ?
What are the + factors and the minus factors of new and second hand turbo's

A used turbo could have had a lot of abuse (ridden hard) but then again folk might have just bought them decided they didn't like it (too boring etc) and decided to flog; in the latter case if it has the skewer (26" converter if neccessary) you are getting a bargain.

Most used turbo trainers are probably lightly used.

FWIW I bought a used Cycleops Fluid 2 turbo that quickly developed a fault in the resistance unit, but Paligap (the UK distributor for Cycleops) replaced it free of charge and without question. Great customer service that is.
