My daughter Rachel is eighteen and a half. She has always been a bit of a tomboy.Well a few months ago she told us she has always felt like a male trapped in a female body. She is by the way very beautiful. Her clothes are all smart ,they are all on the slightly masculine side.
So just before we set off on our American holiday. She informed us there were going to be changes,Rachel would change into Daniel, and a long process of sorting out the legal requirements would begin.Rachel/Daniel told us all this by a letter. The final part of the letter broke me and i balled my eyes out.It said she would understand if we could not cope with this or support her,and she would face this all on her own.
No way i told her i would stand infront of her behind her and either side of her all at the same time.
The reaction from family and 57 school friends has been wonderful. My aged in laws 79 and 83 came over on saturday, they had been informed by letter and a nhs guide while we were in the USA.So they could take it all in and have questions ready.Saturday was wonderful,no whys or wherefores just total support and a few tears.
Since telling us we have seen a dramatic change in our child.A freedom, happier and more outgoing.
Well today Daniel starts his first day at part time work, even his employer will support him, with a name badge Daniel go for it fly, the world is out there waiting to meet you.
