It has taken 4.5 years and a few thousand miles, but finally someone took the trouble to roll down their passenger window and shout - "you should be on the cycle path" as they passed me. I can now officially call myself a cycle commuter  .

For the record I ignored him and gave him a little wave as I coasted by him later as he was stuck in traffic - straight by the driver's window, still on the road.

I actually stopped using the "cycle path" as it is nothing more than the pavement with the occassional shared use sign on it (Wide Lane in Southampton for those familar with it), and I felt bad about appearing to be bombing down the pavement.

:bravo: and welcome! (hehe)

Well done indeed! It's never happened to me (I did commute for over 20 years but don't have anything to commute to at the moment). I usually ignore shared use paths when cycling, they are rubbish.

With the requisite 2 fingered salute of course....

I ride a Pashley I could never be so rude

I in no way told someone he was a w**ker the other day

I once had someone shout out of the passenger window "why are you on the road?, there's a perfectly good pavement over there"

But that was on my road bike; the only comments I get now are "cool bike" when I'm on my Brompton. :-)
